APMP support & certification coaching

APMP — the Association of Proposal Management Professionals — sets the recognised international standard for bid and proposal work. We coach individuals and teams through the certification levels, taught by people who use the methods on live UK tenders every week.

The APMP certification ladder

LevelWhat it involves
FoundationThe entry certification: a multiple-choice exam on the APMP Body of Knowledge — bid lifecycle, win themes, storyboarding, reviews. Achievable within weeks with structured study.
PractitionerThe working level: demonstrates you can apply the methods in practice. Assessment focuses on real application of best practice to your own bid experience.
ProfessionalThe senior level for leaders shaping bid functions — typically pursued after years of practitioner experience. We mentor rather than tutor at this level.

Certification details and syllabuses evolve — always confirm current formats with APMP directly. Our role is the coaching that gets you through them, not the exam administration.

What our coaching includes

  • Structured study plan to your exam date
  • Body of Knowledge walkthroughs
  • Practice questions and mock exams
  • One-to-one coaching calls
  • Application reviews (Practitioner)
  • Team cohort programmes

Why train with working bid writers

The APMP Body of Knowledge can feel abstract — storyboards, kick-off gates, review cycles — until someone shows you each concept running on a real tender. Every coaching session ties the syllabus to live practice: how an answer plan works on an actual ITT, how a red-team review runs when the deadline is Friday, the same disciplines we apply in our own managed bid engagements. Candidates pass exams; more usefully, their next bid is better.

For employers

Certifying your team signals seriousness — to clients, to procurement panels who increasingly recognise the credential, and to bid professionals deciding where to work. Cohort programmes pair naturally with our practical workshop training: APMP provides the framework, the workshops make it muscle memory, and a maintained answer library gives the methods somewhere to live. We’ll scope a programme to your team’s level and budget honestly — including telling you if Foundation alone is enough for now.

From certification to better bids

The real value of APMP isn’t the certificate on the wall — it’s what changes in your team’s daily practice. The Body of Knowledge can feel abstract on the page (storyboards, kick-off gates, review cycles, win strategies) until someone shows each concept running on a live tender, and that’s exactly how we coach. Every session ties the syllabus to real work: how an answer plan looks on an actual ITT, how a review gate runs when the deadline is Friday, how win themes are built from genuine differentiators rather than slogans. Candidates pass the exam, but more usefully their next bid is measurably better, because they’ve learned a method they can apply, not just facts they can recite. It’s the same practical discipline behind our bid writing and bid management work, taught rather than delivered.

Building a certified team

For employers, certifying a team sends a signal — to clients, to increasingly credential-aware procurement panels, and to bid professionals choosing where to build their careers — that you take bidding seriously. We run cohort programmes that take groups through Foundation together and then support individual progression to Practitioner, which rewards real applied experience and so benefits from being staggered: Foundation first, a period of applied practice, then the Practitioner push. Cohort training pairs naturally with practical workshops — APMP supplies the framework, the workshops make it muscle memory — and with a maintained answer library that gives the methods somewhere to live. We’ll scope a programme to your team’s level and budget honestly, including telling you when Foundation alone is enough for now.

Frequently asked questions

How long does APMP Foundation take?

Most working candidates are exam-ready in four to six weeks at a few hours’ study per week. The exam is well within reach of anyone who works on bids; the coaching mainly buys structure, confidence and first-time passes.

Do we book the exam through you?

No — exams are booked with APMP’s approved providers, and membership is held with APMP directly. We provide the preparation: study plans, coaching and mocks. We’ll point you to the right official channels.

Is APMP worth it for a small business?

For a dedicated bid person, usually yes — it’s the recognised credential and the Body of Knowledge is genuinely useful. For an owner-manager who bids occasionally, our practical training delivers more per pound; we’ll tell you which fits.

Can you coach a whole team to Practitioner?

Yes — cohort programmes with shared sessions and individual application coaching. Practitioner rewards real bid experience, so we stagger it: Foundation first, six months of applied practice, then the Practitioner push.
